This is a General Conference talk given in October 2010 by Elder Larry R. Lawrence (of the 70).
Courageous Parenting
The song that is going through my mind right now is one that was used as an annual theme song for the youth a few years ago. Be Strong. Some of the lyrics...'Be strong and of good courage, be not afraid, stand firm in the faith, and the Lord thy God will bless thee...'. I can't remember who the artist is right now.
I've read this talk, I guess now I need to listen to the song.
We need to remember to have the courage to say no when needed and yes to the all of the good.

Education for Real Life
I'm currently studying this talk. It speaks truth to me. I feel like it's important to take care of the spiritual first. It will help us to as we strive to help our kids with their secular learning and the life skills they need to function well in this somewhat crazy world of ours.

Mothers Who Know
I have been off track the last little while. I will be watching this again to help get refocused. I need to help my kids know who they are, be informed, feel loved, and make good choices. We've strayed from that a bit and need to regroup. It's time to step up the parenting. We've come up with a bit of a plan - need to implement. I'm glad I have a husband (and the father of our kids) to work with on this adventure.

Feeling the Pressure
I was opening up another blog and noticed that this had more views than I thought it would at this point in time. I haven't even told anyone about it. Maybe it's possible that there are people out there googling things such as 'purposeful parenting'. The views make me realize that I should probably say something profound. At this point, I think I'll just start with saying something. I don't think I'll ever be able to claim the 'profound' title.

The Point
I have had the chance to talk to many parents, observe even more children, and learn from both. I believe that in order to do something truly well - you have to be purposeful. There needs to be a point. There is a purpose to parenting and there is a way to do it purposefully. This will be my way of sharing some of my observations and things I've learned. I'm not pretending to be a fabulous parent or that I have all of the answers for all things parenting. This is just a way for me to share.
